The fury of Pongsona, a very late season super typhoon that hit the U.S. island of Guam earlier this month, was observed by the NASA scatterometer on QuikSCAT one day before it hit the central Pacific island, causing extensive damage. The white streamlines, representing wind direction, are superimposed on a color map of wind speed.
