Satellite Helps Cut Through Antarctic Waters Navigating through the icy waters of Antarctica has gotten a bit easier with help from NASA's Quikscat satellite. The National Ice Center has been using Quikscat to help route the re-supply ships into and out of McMurdo station, says deputy director Cheryl Bertoia. "Conditions have been unusually harsh this year due to the presence of B15a, a massive iceberg that broke away from the Ross Ice Shelf last spring. The Coast Guard sent down two ice breakers for the first time in years."
