New Atlases Use NASA Data to Chart Ocean Winds
04/17/2008

Winds data from NASA's QuikScat satellite were used to create this map of how frequently high winds blow in the Gulf Stream region off the Canadian coast during wintertime. Lower wind speeds are depicted in purple, higher wind speeds in red. The contour lines show sea surface temperatures in degrees Celsius. Winds increase sharply over the Gulf Stream and along the high glaciers of Greenland's southern tip.
